Road Agent announces the opening for Brooklyn-based painter Eric Trosko on Saturday, January 20, 6-9 p.m. Eric Trosko lays paint on smoothly, like fondant icing, creating engaging and uncomfortable images for which the viewer gamely attempts to find origin. Organic or mechanized, ancient or new, friendly or underwritten by violence?
Trosko’s singular objects, with such repeating motifs as fur, dermis, bark, and grass, are both restrained and absurd. They excrete, ooze, splay and transform while maintaining a cute, clean presence. The artist’s method of mashing together unlikely forms to create empathetic organisms inspires a new word: Synepet.
Trosko received his MFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 1998. He has had solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, and Portland.
