Road Agent is very pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new work by San Antonio-based artist Richie Budd. Please join us in the gallery this Saturday, September 13 from 6-8 p.m. for an artist’s reception.

Budd, who received his MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio, is a current artist in residence at the acclaimed Artpace program in San Antonio, hand picked by Hans Ulrich Obrist, the director of the venerable Serpentine Gallery, London. Budd’s most recent solo exhibition took place at Priska C. Juschka Fine Art in New York City (2007). Budd was an active member of the Good/Bad Art Collective in its ‘90s—era Denton prime, co-authoring such memorable outfits at the Connectors and EFF (Electric Freestyle Fantasy), and such events as Red Rover Issues and Very Fake, But Real.

Budd’s current work is primarily sculpture—biomorphically strange, dark, funny, and repulsive—always hinting at underlying violence and hijinks. He fuses recognizable everyday objects and materials (on their own completely mundane) into roiling robotic shapes, each element playing off of another to create whole new freakish associations, tapping into our own unconscious fantastic and nightmarish references. These objects’ hovering, quiet, collective presence leaves one feeling fascinated, queasy, and oddly recognized.
